Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Mizoram on October 30 to campaign for BJP candidates for the assembly polls for 40 seats scheduled to be held on November 7.

BJP president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister Nityanand Rai and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will also join the campaign trail for the polls in the state.
The BJP has released a list of 40-star campaigners for the assembly polls in Mizoram.
Union Minister Nityanand Rai will campaign in Silsury, while Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will visit Mamit and Hachhek. The dates are being finalised, BJP’s Mizoram unit president Vanlalhmuaka informed media.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who has been appointed as BJP’s election in-charge for Mizoram, is currently camping in the state.
With a particular emphasis on linguistic minority areas, particularly those inhabited by the Bru and Chakma people, the BJP has fielded candidates in 23 seats.
Out of the eleven assembly constituencies in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) district, where there is a large presence of Mizo population, the party is running for 2 seats.
The 40-member Mizoram assembly will go to polls on November 7 and the results will be declared on December 3.
A total of 174 candidates from the main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Congress and the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) have filed nominations.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 23.
