Over 8.5 lakh voters will be sealing the fate of 174 candidates in the Mizoram assembly elections for which polling was held today.

But will MNF retain power or things will turn in favour of the Opposition ZPM? The Congress and the BJP too are fighting the elections.

Well, Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF chief Zormathanga is quite confident that his party will come to power for the second consecutive term. Soon after casting his vote, the Mizoram Chief Minister said, “I have full confidence that we will be able to form the govt with an absolute majority.”

Asked as to what the MNF will do if numbers fall short, Zoramthanga in his reply said, “Well, it will not be a hung assembly. It will be an MNF government, I have full confidence in that.”

“I have casted my vote and I visited half of my constituency also. I believe that from the political atmosphere of this voting day, I believe that we shall be able to form the government. In my constituency in the East AIzawl-I we hope we shall be having an overwhelming victory,” Zoramthanga said.

The Mizoram Chief Minister’s response was also sought on whether it would approach the BJP for an alliance. To this, Zoramthanga replied, “BJP is not an alliance partner. NDA is there at the Centre. Here in the state we do not have any alliance with BJP or any other party.

So far they have not approached us, we have not approached them. We are only a partner of the NDA in the Centre. Here in the state we support the NDA based on issues.”

Speaking about the plus points that the MNF has in comparison to other parties, Zoramthanga said that people who have taken shelter in the state by fleeing from violence affected Myanmar, Bangladesh and Myanmar are of the biggest advantage. The SEDP rolled out by his government is also another plus point for his party this election.

He said, “The problem in Myanmar and then refugees from Manipur and from Bangladesh. Here it will be a big plus factor for my party the MNF because these people whether they are from Burma, Manipur Or Bangladesh, they all have faith that if the MNF form the government here in Aizawl, therefore in order to comfort them, in order to give them shelter and food, so it needs MNF government here, that would be one of the biggest plus points.

SEDP is one of the biggest obstacle for the success of the Opposition people, It was the biggest plus point for the MNF. That is why they targetted and criticized me over my introduction of the SEDP.”
