Mizoram Polls 2023: 9,555 votes cast through home voting, postal ballots

Dry day have been announced for the state from 4:00 pm of November 5 to 4:00 pm of November 7 (voting day) and on December 3 (counting day)

Ahead of the final voting for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, home voting and voting through postal ballots are underway. So far 9,555 votes have been cast as of 5:00 p.m. on November 3.

A total of 2,058 votes have been cast through home voting, while 7,497 votes have been submitted via postal ballots at designated facilitation centres.

Special provisions have been made to facilitate voting for senior citizens aged 80 and above, as well as voters with disabilities (PwD), through home voting. Polling personnel, other officials, and essential service workers on duty are casting their votes through postal ballots.

To ensure that the elections are conducted fairly and transparently, webcasting arrangements have been set up in 60% of the total polling stations, which amounts to 765 out of 1,276 polling stations across the state. A dry run was conducted at the ICT Conference Hall under the supervision of Henry C. Lalrawnkima, Deputy CEO and Nodal Officer for webcasting.

The Commissioner of Excise and Narcotics, Excise and Narcotics Department, Government of Mizoram, has declared ‘dry days’ for the state from 4:00 pm of November 5 to 4:00 pm of November 7 (voting day) and on December 3 (counting day).

During the dry days, the sale and consumption of alcohol will be restricted to maintain a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

A total of 174 candidates including 16 women candidates are in the fray this election.
