Over 2000 landowners in Mizoram’s Kolasib district have decided to call off their indefinite blockade of the National Highway-306 connecting the state with the rest of the country. The shutdown was called off just hours after it began Wednesday morning. The protest was suspended after the Kolasib deputy commissioner assured the demonstrators that their demands were addressed during a chief secretary-led meeting in Aizawl. The landowners decided to call off the shutdown after the government’s move to comply with the Supreme Court directive to revoke the 1965 Roadside Reserve Forest notification. The issue had stemmed out after the Centre’s decision of widening the NH-306 along with National Highway-6 into four lanes.
