In a major clampdown on drug smuggling, the Assam Rifles on Thursday recovered 91 grams of Heroin from Thuampui in Mizoram. The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles, Excise and Narcotics Department based on specific information.
One person has been apprehended in connection with the case.
The approximate market value of the contraband seized is estimated to be over Rs 40 lakh. The contraband items were handed over to excise and narcotics department.
Ongoing smuggling of drugs has been a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
