The Mizoram Government has decided to sanction a sum of Rs 50 lakh from the State exchequer for rehabilitation of Myanmar refugees taking shelter in the State.
The State government had earlier sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for the rehabilitation process of the Myanmar nationals. The fund will be distributed by the deputy commissioners where the refugees are taking shelter.
Notably, civil society organization like Young Mizo Association, church organizations and several other civil society groups have also raised lakhs of rupees for the refugees.
Worth mentioning here that the Mizoram government had requested the Central government several times to sanction aid for the rehabilitation of the Myanmar nationals, who have entered Mizoram following the military coup in neighboring Myanmar, on humanitarian ground.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Professor Lalnuntluanga, General Sectary of the Central Young Mizo Association informed that the aid from the Government is a much needed relief, he also added that, with the current scenario, the fund will only last for a good 2 to 3 weeks.
