Mizoram: Father of Mizo essays, Padma Shri Prof Darchhawna passes away at 87

An academician par excellence, Prof Darchhawna is celebrated for his extensive body of work comprising 23 books.
Padma Shri Prof. Darchhawna, known as the Father of Mizo essays, passed away today at the age of 87. His funeral procession was held at his residence in the Kulikawn locality of Aizawl.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma condoled Prof Darchhawna death. He took to X and remembered the huge contribution that the late Professor made to the world of music, theology, history and literature and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Born on January 1, 1936, Prof. Darchhawna was a distinguished literary scholar. He is celebrated for his extensive body of work comprising 23 books.
His remarkable achievements were recognized with prestigious recognitions, including the Padma Shri in 2005, the Best Citizen of India Award in 1998, and the Shri Ganga Sharan Singh Purashkar in 1999.
Darchhawna was the first President of the Mizo Academy of Letters. He was the Principal of three colleges in Mizoram. He also worked as the Director of Art and Culture in Mizoram.
Darchawna was also a special officer of Mizoram University and founder chairman of the Mizo Historical Society, when Mizoram University was known as North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Mizoram campus.
He held the position of president of the organization for several terms after being elected in 2013.
His passing away has left a void in the literary and academic world of Mizoram.
