Lengpui Airport Transfer: During the meeting, AAI officials indicated they would assess Lengpui Airport’s infrastructure.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma held a crucial meeting this evening with senior officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to discuss the potential transfer of Lengpui Airport to the national aviation body.

Lalduhoma revealed that the idea of transferring the state’s lone airport to AAI had been considered previously but did not materialise due to unfavourable conditions. “We were exploring the possibility, but things did not go in our favour, which opened up other, more favourable avenues,” he explained.

However, a recent meeting between the Chief Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah revived the dialogue, leading to renewed talks with AAI. As a result, Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister, visited Delhi on April 16 to meet with officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and AAI. Today’s discussions were a direct outcome of that visit.

During the meeting, AAI officials indicated they would assess Lengpui Airport’s infrastructure before outlining specific conditions for a possible transfer. They also discussed necessary improvements and future plans and expressed appreciation for the constructive discussions held.

Dr. Sharad Kumar, Member (Operations), M. Raja Kishore, Regional Executive Director (NER), and other AAI officials met the Chief Minister at his office.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Adviser to the CM TBC Lalvenchhunga, Vanlaldina Fanai, and officials from Mizoram’s Civil Aviation Wing. The state government is now awaiting AAI’s assessment to move forward with the next phase of talks.
