The Mizoram chapter of the Northeast Indigenous People’s Forum was launched at Aizawl today. Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Advisor of the Northeast Indigenous People’s Forum Anup Chetia stated that the organization will strive to safeguard the rights, culture, and identity of the indigenous people of the Northeast. The NEIFP, Chetia said, aims to strengthen the unity between indigenous people of the region.

At the launch, Chetia spoke on the need for the indigenous people of the Northeast to come together. He said that the forum is needed to push for the cause of indigenous people of the northeast in the fast-growing world.

He also spoke on the issue of AFSPA calling it discriminative and against the basic ethos of human existence. The NEIPF Advisor said that the forum feels that repealing the AFSPA will bring peace and harmony to the region.

During the event, Chetia also felicitated former CM of Myanmar’s Chin State, Salai Lian Luai. Luai had fled to Mizoram’s Champai after the Military Junta recaptured power in Myanmar February this year.
