Mizoram can be global tourist hub: PM Modi ahead of assembly elections

Infrastructure brings investment, industries, and income, and also creates opportunities, said PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the people of poll-bound Mizoram via video conference.

Addressing the public, PM Modi highlighted the infrastructural development in the Northeastern region done by BJP and discussed the impact of various developmental initiatives in Mizoram.

Prime Minister Modi said that after taking office as a part of the NDA government in 2014, BJP prioritized bridging this gap by addressing the needs and aspirations of the Northeastern states.

He said that until 2014, people thought that the Northeastern states, like Mizoram, were geographically and physically far from Delhi, but BJP connected Delhi with the Northeast states.

“In the past 9 years, I have had the privilege of visiting the Northeastern region 60 times. Apart from this, large-scale development and connectivity works also reduced the physical distance. BJP has brought the national capital, Delhi, to the doorstep of the people of the Northeast, which means Delhi is no longer far; Delhi is at your doorstep,” said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister said, “Mizoram is a state with both, nature and culture. It has the potential to become a global tourist hub. When infrastructure improves, it helps trade, talent and tourism. Infrastructure brings investment, industries, and income, and also creates opportunities. During one of my earlier visits to Mizoram, I had promised to work for transformation by transportation, since then a revolution has happened across sectors due to the work of the BJP-led government.”

He said, “In railways, BJP did something that had not been done in the seven decades of independence. Our work on roads is well-known throughout the Northeast. There were 8,500 kilometers of National Highways in the Northeast till 2013–2014. In 2022–2023, we nearly doubled it to 15,700 kilometers.”

Speaking about the effects of various development programs in Mizoram, he said that the Ayushman Bharat scheme provides free healthcare to the poor, benefiting around 4.5 lakh Mizoram residents across 100 hospitals.

He also discussed the financial help that is provided to farmers each year through programs such as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, which benefits nearly 1,75,000 farmers in Mizoram.

Thanking the people of the state for their work in Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Modi said, “It is you who made Mizoram the state with 100% functional public toilets. You are the one creating a Mizoram that is clean and green.”

BJP, which has only one MLA in the outgoing assembly, has fielded candidates in 23 seats for the forthcoming elections.

Elections for 40 assembly seats in Mizoram will be held on November 7 and the results will be declared on December 3.
