It was a rather fruitful two day Mizoram Assembly Session. The Session that concluded today passed two Bills with 4 amendments.
The Bills – The Mizoram (Protection of Rivers) Bill, 2023 and The Mizoram Ground Water (Control and Regulation) Bill, 2023, were introduced in the Assembly by Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia.
In a remarkable display of bipartisanship, the Mizoram Legislative Assembly had on Tuesday unanimously adopted an official resolution opposing the recent Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023, passed by the Parliament.
The resolution, moved by the Minister for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, T J Lalnuntluanga, carried the collective voice of the assembly in its endeavour to safeguard the rights and interests of the people of Mizoram.
The two-day Monsoon Session was the 12th and last session of the current 8th legislature as the general election to the 40-member state legislative assembly is most likely to be held by November-December this year.
The assembly was adjourned sine die by Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo today evening.
