The induction service was held at LADC Hall, Lawngtlai in the presence of Deputy Chief Whip W. Chhuanawma.
At least 9 Members of District Council (MDC) of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) joined Zoram People’s Movement party at Lawngtlai district in Southern Mizoram on Thursday.
The induction service was held at LADC Hall, Lawngtlai in the presence of Deputy Chief Whip W. Chhuanawma.
The MDC who joined the ZPM Party are seven Mizo National Front MDC who left the party on April 4 this year, viz Manghmunga Chinzah, BN Thangpuia, CL Lianzuala, V. Zathanga, T. Lalengmuana, Tuturu Singh, L. Lalhmachhuana and two Independent MDC N. Language and L.R. Dingliana Chinzah.
Speaking at the induction service, Chhuanawma welcomed the 9 MDC for joining the ZPM party saying, “We induction you into Zoram People’s Movement party to join in the development of a corrupt free state.”
“When ZPM won the 2023 MLA General Election, and LADC was then not in a situation to form a solid government, our party could have easily formed a government. Since we do not want to repeat precious government’s misuse of power in District Councils, we refrained from such activities,” he added.
W. Chhuanawma also called on the people of Lawngtlai to vote for Zoram People’s Movement party in the upcoming By-election and Village Council Election saying, “If ZPM gets elected in the upcoming VC and By elections, we will form a reliable and steady government in the Lai Autonomous District Council.”
It is worth mentioning that the Lai Autonomous District Council has 25 elected members. With a by-election to be held for Lawngtlai Chandmary, the current Council has 24 elected members- 12 Mizo National Front MDC under the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Congress. The opposition comprises of 10 Zoram People’s Movement MDC and 1 BJP MDC.
