Mizo heroes honoured at ‘Meet the Heroes: Peace Pays’ meet in Aizawl

In an effort to promote the historic Mizo peace accord signed between the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Union Government in June 1986, the Mizoram Government honoured the “Mizo Heroes” who walked to China from Myanmar’s Arakan state during the independence movement at “Meet the Heroes: Peace Pays” conference at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl on Thursday.

Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF Chief Zoramthanga thanked the State tourism Minister Robert Ramwia Royte and his department for their efforts to roll out the peace accord in order to promote it and honour the Mizo heroes, who fought for the Mizo rights.

He also expressed hope that the event will bring consciousness among the Mizos to love their land and educate them about the important event in Mizo history. He further said that the government has allocated Rs 40 lakh under the ‘Peace Pays’ project in an effort to popularise the Mizo Accord.

The Chief Minister also released two books entitled “The Valorous Walk to China” and “Expedition to China” on the occasion.

Up to 144 members of China delegation, 73 survivors of the delegation have been honoured along with relatives of the deceased members. The event was attended by Minister of State, MLA’s, Tourism Department officials and NGO’s in the state.
