Minor girl raped and threatened by tutor’s husband in Tripura

An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and threatened by the husband of her tutor in Tripura’s Unakoti district.
The accused has been identied as Har Kumar Debnath (46).
The matter came to light when the victim’s father approached the police on Sunday to file a complaint against the accused when the minor girl shared her ordeal with her parents.
As per the complaint, the minor girl used to go to the house of a lady teacher for private tuition in Kumarghat area. Taking advantage of the absence of the tutor, her husband had sexually assaulted her on 26 June and on July 5, said Inspector Sankar Saha, officer in-charge Kumarghat police station.
The accused also threatened to kill the girl if she informed anyone about the incident. Out of fear she did not inform anyone and refused to go for tuition making excuses. As her parents were repeatedly insisting her to go for tuition, she narrated her ordeal with her parents.
Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation into the matter and arrested Har Kumar Debnath on Sunday. During interogation, the accused has admitted the crime.
A case has been registered against Debnath under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
Debnath was produced before the district and sessions court of Unakoti for legal proceedings on Sunday.
The victim has also been medically examined.
The court has sent the accused to judicial custody and shall be produced in the court again after 14 days.
