The operation commenced early on October 25, with a joint task force targeting the Namtola area in Charaideo district.
In a coordinated intelligence-led operation on October 25, Military Intelligence units from Kolkata, along with Assam Police, conducted multiple raids in Upper Assam and captured several overground workers (OGWs) and linkmen of the banned insurgent group ULFA (I). The operation, supported by the Eastern Command Intelligence Branch (ECIB) and 23 Assam Rifles under the 73 Mountain Brigade, focused on suspected associates of ULFA (I) commanders, particularly SS Brig Arunodoy Dahotia and SS Brig Ganesh Lahon, two of the group’s senior leaders.
Military intelligence had flagged active communications between certain OGWs and ULFA (I) commanders, specifically over WhatsApp, which were then shared with the Inspector General of Police for the Northeast Region. This prompted swift mobilization and collaboration between security forces to intercept the insurgent network.
The operation commenced early on October 25, with a joint task force targeting the Namtola area in Charaideo district. Here, authorities apprehended Prem Newar, a known associate of SS Brig Ganesh Lahon. Shortly afterward, a second raid in the Chabua area of Dibrugarh district led to the arrest of Ujjal Gohain (alias Socrates), son of the late Hem Chandra Gohain, and Shashanka Rajkhowa, son of Keshab Rajkhowa, both identified as ULFA (I) OGWs.
