MHA Lifts AFSPA From Dibrugarh District of Assam

AFSPA is now imposed in only 3 districts of the state – Tinsukia, Charaideo and Sibsagar

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has lifted the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in X, “MAJOR WIN FOR ASSAM’S PEACE EFFORTS. My immense gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for removing AFSPA from Dibrugarh. This decision will go a long way in establishing the city as Assam’s 2nd capital.”

This means AFSPA is now imposed in only three districts of the state – Tinsukia, Charaideo and Sibsagar.

In another major boost to trade, investment and tourism in Assam, Japan today revised its travel advisory to Level 1 from Level 2 meaning Japanese citizens can now travel to any place in Assam except Tinsukia, Charaideo and Sibsagar, CM Sarma said briefing the media in Guwahati after the Cabinet meeting today.
