The Serchhip Battalion of the Assam Rifles has recovered nearly 20,000 methamphetamine tablets at Mizoram’s Chhungte village on Thursday.
Based on specific information, a joint operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles and the state Customs department of Champai district.
The approximate cost of the seized item is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore in international market.
Sources have revealed that the forces had received a tip-off from locals regarding 2 youths carrying a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets with them. The two accused were initially detained from the spot and later arrested by the police.
Defence sources have hinted that the duo may be from Myanmar, as the point where the drugs were seized is very close to the international border.
