Meghalaya’s Smart Meter Project Hits Roadblock as State Awaits Ministry Approval
The Meghalaya government’s Smart Meter project has hit a roadblock, with the state awaiting approval from the Ministry of Power before proceeding with the installation of smart meters. According to Power Minister AT Mondal, the project has already been tendered out, but the discovered rate quoted by the contractor is significantly higher than the state’s estimated cost. Although the rate is comparable to other Northeastern states, the Meghalaya government has raised concerns with the Ministry of Power and is seeking further deliberation.
