The toll gate had been collecting fees from various goods-carrying vehicles using the highway

Much to the relief of trucks and goods carrying vehicles, the district administration of Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district decided to close the toll gate set up by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) along National Highway No 6 in the Umdihar area.

The toll gate had been collecting fees from various goods-carrying vehicles using the highway. The owners and drivers of these vehicles had been expressing their dissatisfaction with the increasing number of toll gates along the National Highways in Meghalaya. They formally filed complaints with the KHADC, raising their concerns and grievances about these toll gates.

In response to these complaints, the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District issued an order to shut down the Umdihar toll gate located on National Highway 6. The executive magistrate and the police department carried out this order by locking down the toll gate.
