The Congress in Meghalaya has lent a new twist to politics in the state with top party leader Mukul Sangma making a sensational claim that the NPP led Conrad Sangma government may be reduced to a minority and fall soon.
The former Chief Minister who is the Congress Legislature Party leader, also stated that the NPP led coalition was trying to poach MLAs from the Congress party.
These dramatic statements have come in the wake of the Congress MLA from Ranikor constituency, Martin Danggo, publicly stating this week that he would switch sides and join the NPP provided the state government implements its decision to upgrade the Ranikor administrative unit to a civil sub division.
Already grass-root level Congress workers in the Ranikor constituency have joined the NPP at a public fucntion. These Congress workers had brought down the party flag and raised the NPP flag as a symbolic gesture having switched sides.
Earlier in a recent interview to Northeast Live, Congress leader Mukul Sangma said his party was toying with various options and was holding his cards close to his chest.
