During the counter insurgency operation, as many as 11 cadres of the ANSC were apprehended from Hawakhana. Self-styled chairman of the outfit identified as Chekam Sangma was also nabbed by the police, and several important documents including hand-written notes and pocket diary, among others were recovered from his possession. The cadres were also collecting weapons and were about to begin unlawful activities such as kidnapping and extortion. Additionally, the recruitment and training of cadres was scheduled to start after the procurement of weapons. The cadres have also admitted their involvement in illegal weapon smuggling and multiple cases of vehicle theft in Garo Hills.

The cadres were reportedly planning to form a fake NGO to extort money. The police also suspects involvement of 15-20 more unknown cadres and efforts are on to trace them.
