The deceased, 38-year-old Probin D. Sangma, an armed branch constable of the Shillong jail, was declared brought dead to the Shillong Civil Hospital.
The pillion rider, Probat R Marak, also a constable of the Meghalaya police, meanwhile has been shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences after his condition deteriorated at the civil hospital.
The health minister’s son, Aiban-sharai Nongsie, was also injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the Shillong civil hospital.
It was at 12.45 am on Saturday that the Mercedes driven by the Health Minister’s son hit the bike ahead of the 4 Furlong Tri-junction in Shillong resulting in the death of the rider.
Meanwhile, Health Minister AL Hek has said that a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the incident and the guilty will be punished as per law.
