Concerned about the slow progress in the repair and upgradation of National Highway No 62, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Rakkam Sangma today said that he would meet Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and concerned officials to speed up the work particularly in the stretch connecting Assam to Dalu via Baghmara, in South Garo Hills.
Minister Sangma handling the Border Areas Development Department, Education Department and General Administration Department, informed that the main reason behind the delay is land acquisition.
Minister Rakkam Sangma stated, “I’ve learned that the land acquisition process is still in its initial stages after reviewing the matter in Bakmara last week. I will review the progress with deputy commissioners and involve the state’s land and revenue department to expedite the process. Delay should not be compromised.”
“The department has sanctioned Rs 6 crore to repair some portions of the row but that is too little to make. However, I will meet Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tyngsong and talk about speeding up the process,” added Rakkam A Sangma.
