Meghalaya: Man accused of raping 15-year-old girl gets 20 year imprisonment

The Special Judge (POCSO) in Shillong has pronounced a 20-year rigorous imprisonment for Dresstar Kurbah, who was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.

The verdict was delivered on December 6, 2023, bringing closure to a case that began with an FIR filed on February 11, 2021.

The case, registered under Mawlai PS Case No. 68(11)2021, invoked Sections 5(j)(ii) and 6 of the POCSO Act, following a report received at Mawlai police station. The complaint detailed the alleged incident, which occurred in June 2021.

The investigation, led by WP/Sub-Inspector Lavinia S Kongwang, diligently proceeded, culminating in the charge sheet being filed against Dresstar Kurbah on January 12, 2022.

After a thorough trial, the Special Judge (POCSO) found the accused guilty of the charges.

The judgment, dated December 6, 2023, sentenced Dresstar Kurbah to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000.
