Permutations and combinations gain momentum in Meghalaya ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
The MDA is yet to decide on fielding a common candidate from Tura and Shillong seats in the Lok Sabha elections slated next year, said James Sangma. The topic of common candidate has not come up in any of the MDA meetings yet and it will be a collective decision.
It may be mentioned that the idea to filed a common candidate for the Lok Sabha seats was pitched by MDA coalition partner, the United Democratic Party or UDP and they have been constantly maintaining that this will help the coalition perform better and secure a win.
On the other hand BJP legislator AL Hek opines that he feels that the BJP should contest from both the seats as it is a national party, however the decision to field a candidate or to support the common candidate of the MDA depends on the central leadership of the party.
