The pressure groups in Meghalaya are in no mood to relent despite repeated assurances from the State government as they continue with their pro-ILP protests.
Another round of agitation led by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and other pressure groups was held in Shillong on Thursday.
Pressure groups consisting of organisations like Ri-Bhoi Youth Front (RBYF), Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) spearheaded by KSU rallied at Motphran, the busiest area in Meghalaya’s state capital, burning effigies and carrying flags sloganeering the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit.
Talking to mediapersons, KSU general secretary Donald Thabah said that the agitation will intensify by the end of this month and if the government further delays the inauguration of entry and exit points at Umling in Ri Bhoi, the pressure groups will take it upon themselves to man the gates.
Echoing similar sentiments, the HNYF said that the government should also expedite the setting up of identified entry and exit gates all across the state.
