Meghalaya: Former BJP leader HM Shangpliang joins NPP

NPP national president and chief minister Conrad Sangma welcome HM Shangpliang to the party

Former senior Meghalaya BJP leader and former Mawsynram MLA, HM Shangpliang joined the National People’s Party (NPP) today.

After joining NPP, HM Shangpliang said, “I am very impressed with the emphasis given by the NPP for the development of the state. NPP has
been supporting the farmers of the state under the flagship programs and it assures to continue to engage with the Central government for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India and for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP). These issues and concerns taken up by NPP for the welfare of the people of the state has persuaded and convinced me to be part of the growth and hence I joined NPP today.”

Shangpliang who had resigned from BJP earlier this month, joined the NPP in the presence of party national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and other NPP leaders.

“Shangpliang has been an active leader, voicing concerns of the people of the State and will be a great addition to the NPP in furthering our mission & vision for Meghalaya,” tweeted CM Sangma welcoming Shangpliang to NPP.

A former nominated IAS officer, Shangpliang won Assembly election in 2018 but lost in 2023 when he contested from BJP.
