The minister expressed hope that the issue could be resolved amicably and highlighted the cordial relationship between the governments of Assam and Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Minister of Excise, Kyrmen Shylla on Monday informed that the Assam Excise department has stopped the issuance of transit passes to Meghalaya without prior communication. This has adversely affected the state and is causing inconvenience.

After holding a meeting with the state Excise Department, Shylla said, “This disruption is causing significant difficulties for the Meghalaya government, particularly in the transportation of excise materials to Garo Hills.”

Shylla mentioned that the state government is taking measures to resolve the issue and the Chief Secretary will send a communication to the Assam Excise department.

The minister expressed hope that the issue will be resolved amicably and highlighted the cordial relationship between the governments of Assam and Meghalaya.

“It’s just a transit pass, because no doubt they (Assam) also require the transit pass when it comes to the national highway to reach to the other part of Assam. So we have never caused any disturbance. We want to resolve this issue. I would like to request the Assam government, especially the excise department to kindly support us because there’s no solution in stopping our transit pass. We are ready to work hand in hand. They can tell us if there is anything that needs to be done from our side,” he further added.
