Once these guidelines are approved, the expansion plans can move forward.
Umroi Airport, was initially constructed in the mid-1960s and became operational in the mid-1970s. In June 2019, Umroi Airport received a Category 3C license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing it to operate Q400 and ATR 72 aircraft. Following this, IndiGo began daily flights from Shillong to Kolkata on 20 July 2019 under the UDAN scheme, utilizing an ATR-72 aircraft. Airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Alliance Air continue to operate flights from the airport, ensuring connectivity for the region.
