Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong reaffirmed the steadfast commitment of both the Centre and the state government to see the peace talks with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) through to a meaningful resolution. Addressing the media, Tynsong emphasized that the decision to continue the peace talks now rests with the HNLC, while underlining the government’s unwavering dedication to bringing the dialogue to a conclusive end.
“The ball is now in the HNLC’s court. They need to respond to it,” Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong stated.
Tynsong’s remarks came in light of recent reports of demand notes issued to business individuals in the name of the HNLC. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the first round of formal peace discussions had already taken place, during which a comprehensive array of issues had been thoroughly deliberated.
“So now we are waiting for the next meeting. From the government side, we are ready but we leave it ultimately to the decision to be taken by the leaders of the organisation (HNLC),” he added.
Regarding the HNLC’s request for amnesty, Tynsong acknowledged that the matter had been extensively discussed and clarified. While refraining from elaborating further on the issue, he assured that the government maintains a sincere and resolute commitment to advancing the peace process.
“Let the talks continue…right now the ball is in their court as from the government we are ready at midnight, midday, anytime, any moment we want to complete the process of talks and to reach a permanent conclusion,” he added.
