Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that the state government is deliberating on shifting the State secretariat to New Shillong township in next 3 years to ease congestion in Shillong.
Chief Minister Sangma said that the construction for the new secretariat is likely to start by October this year.
“It is indeed a big challange, but we are hopeful of completing majority of the work in next 3 years,” said CM Sangma.
He said that the design for the new secretariat building is being worked out and that the State government is expecting to finalize the design by March.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma along with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today laid foundation stones for as many as 3 roads leading to New Shillong Township-
1.Road from Lumshyiap Bellafonte to New Shillong Township at Umsawli via Mawpat (Rs 49 crore).
2.MBT of road from Bribah Mawpat to IAS Colony Umsawli (Rs 55 crore).
3.Improvement including widening to 2-Lane Standard of balance length of Shillong-Diengpasoh road from 14 km to 21.20 km.(27.49 crore).
