The East Jaintia Hills District administration today handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of three miners from Lumthari village who are trapped inside the tragedy-hit coal mine.

The interim relief was made available after a directive in this regard by the National Green Tribunal.

The relief will be made available to the families of all 15 miners trapped inside the mine.

Meanwhile, even after close to two weeks, the district administration has been unable to transport heavy water pumping equipment to the affected coal mine.
