Meghalaya CM to hold key meet on MRRSA 2020 next week

Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma will hold a crucial meeting next week to discuss the Ministry of Home Affairs’ views on the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security (Amendment) Act, 2019, said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today.
Speaking to media, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the meeting will discuss at length the legal aspect and other consideration to determine how to move forward.
The Deputy Chief Minister said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has returned the amended MRSSA passed in the Assembly. CM Conrad Sangma, me and other senior officers, including advocate general of the state will hold a meeting next week to discuss the views put forward by the Ministry of Home Affairs and seehow to move forward with MRRSA 2019.”
The Deputy Chief Minister said the State government has already constituted a district Task Force Committee headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendent of Police (SPs).
The State government has also directed the Deputy Commissioners to implement the MRSSA and make sure in their respective justification this act is implemented in totality.
It may be mentioned here that as of now the Meghalaya government has introduced the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 in as many as 7 localities on pilot basis in Shillong.
The purpose of the implementation of the Act is to prevent anti-social elements from taking shelter in the state, ensure and improve the security of the state’s citizens by carefully and thoroughly examining tenants, and establish a control mechanism to prevent illegal infiltration or migrants who may be arriving and residing in various localities.
The State government has launched an online MRSSA portal to digitise database of basic data of all the landlords and tenants.
All landlords and tenants residing in the 7 localities–Nongrim Hills, Pohkseh, Nongrah, Nongmensong, Lapalang, Riat Laban and Wahdienglieng have been asked to register and enter the details of their residents in the app vide URL https://megrssa.nic.
