Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday.
Sangma expressed his gratitude to the Government of India and the Prime Minister for providing Rs 5,105 crore from the share of central taxes, and Rs 1,279 crore as Revenue Gap Grant for the next financial year.
Taking to Twitter after the meeting, Sangma wrote, “It’s always an honour to meet Hon’ble @PMOIndia, Sh.@narendramodi Ji. Thanked him & GoI for allocating ₹5,105 Cr from the Share of Central Taxes & ₹1,279 Cr as Revenue Gap Grant for 2021-22 for #Meghalaya.”
In the meeting, Sangma urged the Prime Minister to consider State-specific projects as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission. The Chief Minister stated that the State-specific projects will go a long way in taking forward the development agenda of the Meghalaya government.
The Chief Minister also apprised the Prime Minister of several new initiatives taken up by the state government to combat climate change.
Sangma also informed PM Modi that Meghalaya envisages hosting an international conference on climate change and natural resource management with the participation of all the North Eastern Chief Ministers and other distinguished personalities in the field.
He also sought for a convenient time from the Prime Minister, so that Meghalaya can hold the event in the next three months.
