Meghalaya cabinet on Friday gave it’s approval to the proposal of the political department to bring a official resolution for the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Informing this, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the proposal will be introduced in the ongoing Autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and passed.
He also said that it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Highlighting that unlike other states, Meghalaya has two prominent languages – Khasi and Garo, Tynsong said that the issue has to be pushed to the centre for the language to be included in the eight schedule.
