The Meghalaya cabinet today passed the Meghalaya Mineral Prevention of Illegal Mining Transportation of Storage Rules, 2022.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that the rules will apply to both Major and minor minerals.
The Chief minister also mentioned that this will deal with proper monitoring of illegal transportation of minerals , storage of minerals and regulate Issuance of mineral transport challans.
The development comes at a time when the Meghalaya has been rocked by a series of allegations regarding its alleged lackdasical attitude in dealing with illegal coal mining in the state. It was recently that the Meghalaya High Court had taken cognizance of the issue and pulled up the state govt into taking steps to curb such activities.
