Protesters in hundreds gathered near the capital complex at Dispur in Guwahati in protest against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Activists of around 70 organizations have congregated from several places of Assam and staged a massive protest in Dispur demanding scrapping of the Bill which proposes to provide Indian Citizenship to Hindu migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The activists of these organisations staged a noisy demonstration at capital Dispur in Guwahati expressing their continued objection to the bill.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in East, West and Central Guwahati areas since 2 days in view of the mass demonstration and the prohibition will remain in force until further orders.
Police sources earlier said the administration would take strong steps against anyone trying to break the law.
As a part of the statewide agitation, the organisations will be staging mass demonstrations in all the districts of Assam from the 17th of November.
They are also scheduled to stage a sit-in demonstration at the Veterinary Science College playground at Khanapara from December 1st until the Bill is scrapped.
