In one of the biggest drug haul in Manipur, brown sugar worth around Rs 90 crore was seized following a raid in Imphal East on Wednesday.

Shockingly, a head constable of the Manipur Police has also been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Acting on specific inputs, a team of the Narcotics Cell of Imphal East Police busted a drug manufacturing unit at Yaripok Tulihal Awang Leikai in Imphal East in the wee hours today.

The raid led to the recovery of a whopping 40 kg of brown sugar and around 430 kg of raw materials for manufacturing brown sugar. The seized contraband items are worth around Rs 90 crore in the international market.

The arrested head constable has been identified as 42-year-old Muzibur Rahman, another individual identified as Mohammad Firoj has also been arrested in connection with the case.

This is by far the biggest drug seizure in the state in the recent times. The alleged involvement of a cop in the illegal drug manufacturing trade also raises serious questions specially at a time when the N Biren Singh-led Manipur govt is waging a decisive war against drugs.
