Manipur women paraded naked: Meghalaya CM calls for strongest action

Meghalaya CM urges PM, HM, and Manipur CM to take swift measures and punish those involved in the horrendous act against the women

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday expressed his utmost disgust and shock and called for immediate strong action against those involved in the horrific act of disrobing two Manipur women, groping and dragging them naked through the streets of Thoubal district.

“The incident is extremely disturbing. It should not have happened. The government must take strong action against those involved. What has happened is completely unacceptable,” CM Sangma said.

He further said that he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the situation in Manipur. He mentioned that he had written to the PM and HM earlier regarding Manipur situation not as a CM but as part of a political party. (CM Sangma is the chief of the National People’s Party (NPP).
The situation in Manipur continues to be disturbing and all measures need to be taken address the situation, the CM said.

The incident had taken place on May 4 but the video went viral just yesterday as the internet service in Manipur still remains restricted. The content of the video has sent shock waves not just across the country but has hit global headlines.

Starting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to political leaders across party lines, Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, Chief Ministers of several states and a host of Bollywood celebrities have condemned the horrifying video in the strongest terms.
