The Schedule Tribe Demand Committee Manipur demanding ST status for the Meiteis has said that mere verbal assurance from Chief Minister N Biren Singh was not enough and that the committee wanted to see action on ground.

Talking to Northeast Live, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit said that the Committee wants the CM’s assurance converted into concrete action.

It may be mentioned that Manipur CM N Biren Singh had recently assured to look into the ST demand issue.

Meanwhile, as part of its series of protest, the STDCM held a sit-in protest at Kongpal area in Imphal east.

Executive members of STDCM, local Meira-Paibi and local club members from the nearby area took part the protest.
