Manipur: Villagers threaten to block roads leading to Konsakhul

The village authorities have demanded an apology from the Konsakhul village authority within 3 days from today and cautioned that the approach roads to Konsakhul passing through the 21 villages

Disagreement between villages over land ownership at Konsakhul area in Kangpokpi district has taken an ugly turn as over 20 villages neighbouring Konsakhul have threatened to block approach roads to Konsakhul.

The development came after Konsakhul village authority reportedly claimed that the land of the 21 villages belongs to Konsakhul.

The village authorities have demanded an apology from the Konsakhul village authority within 3 days from today and cautioned that the approach roads to Konsakhul passing through the 21 villages will be blocked if failed to do so within the stipulated time.

Speaking to the media today, the chief of Henjang Village, K. Lhouvum said that the Konsakhul village authority and the state government should bear responsibility for any untoward incidents arising out of the road block.

K. Lhouvum further refuted to the claim made by Konsakhul’s Village Chairman, D. Adam Liangmai who alleged that the people inhabiting these 21 villages were actually brought from Burma in 1950 by Kuki militants.

He also expressed surprise on the allegations made by Konsakhul’s Village Chairman, D. Adam Liangmai regarding these 21 villages causing deforestation to plant poppy, and also polluting the water at Singda Dam.

He further urged the government to visit these villages and conduct proper enquiries in order to find out the truth regarding the allegations made by Konsakhul village authority.

It may be mentioned that the government had imposed CrPC 144 since March 28 after tension erupted between Konsakhul and Leilon Vaiphei villagers.
