Single member Justice Ramalaingam bench on Thursday admitted the petition filed by controversial vice chancellor AP Pandey challenging the memorandum of agreement signed by the Manipur university community and Union HRD ministry on August 16.
The High Court has refereed the matter to the divisional bench considering the complexity of the case.
As per the agreement, the ministry reconstituted the fact finding committee to probe into the allegations made against Pandey by the Manipur University students union.
Meanwhile, over 30 Manipur University Students Union members were picked up by police today for staging protest outside the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Among those arrested was also the MUSU general secretary L Kennedy. While 9 students were arrested by the Imphal police, 22 were arrested by Porompat police.
Earlier, Controversial Manipur University Vice chancellor AP Pandey remains defiant and came out with a string of orders including one placing the VC in-charge Professor W Viswanath under suspension with immediate effect on grounds of misconduct.
The order also states that the headquarters of Professor Viswanath shall be at the Transit Office and will not leave the headquarters without obtaining permission.
VC Pandey has also puts Professor Dorendrajit Singh under suspension, who is also the registrar in-charge angering the university community and adding to the all round controversy.
Besides a fresh order has also been issued stating movement of all files regarding administrative and financial matters must be routed through the offices of the Vice-chancellor and Registrar in charge functioning from the Transit Office at Sanjenthong in Imphal.
