Manipur: Shop Owners Down Shutters Due to Illegal Taxes, Extortion

15 months on and the law and order situation in ethnic conflict-hit Manipur have gone for the worst. In Bishnupur’s Moirang area, shopkeepers, traders, and businessmen had to close down their shops and business establishments, following illegal taxation and extortion by various armed groups. Shopkeepers allege that heavy losses have been inflicted on their business, ever since the violence and the subsequent illegal taxation by armed groups.
