Manipur reports 259 fresh COVID-19 cases; sporting activities banned indefinitely

The COVID-19 caseload in Manipur rose to 31,001 as 259 more people tested positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, Imphal West district reported 95 cases, Imphal East 77 cases, while Churachandpur and Bishnupur district reported 28 and 20 new cases respectively.

Besides, Thoubal reported 11 new cases, Ukhrul eight, Kakching seven, Senapati six, Kangpokpi three, Chandel two and one each from Jiribam and Tengnoupal districts.

Two persons – a 76-year-old man from Imphal East and another man from Imphal West districts succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 395.

The total number of recoveries in the state has reached 29,376. The state’s recovery rate on Wednesday was 94.75 per cent.

The active cases currently stands at 1,230, while 1,47,012 people have been vaccinated so far.

Meanwhile, the government on Wednesday banned all sporting activities indefinitely in the state with immediate effect in view of the raging second wave of coronavirus.

The prohibition on sporting activities have been clamped as per the recommendation of the State Consultative Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority.
