The National People’s Party is set to contest in at least 42 seats in the upcoming Manipur polls . While the party had already released names of 33 candidates so far, names of 9 more candidates were announced in presence of party national president Conrad Sangma in Imphal West today.

In the fresh list of candidates are 2 sitting MLAs of the BJP who were denied tickets. Kakching MLA M Rameshwar Singh and Wangkhei MLA Y Erabot Singh who were formally inducted in the party today were given tickets by the NPP.

Speaking to Northeast Live after the announcement of names, NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is on a 4-day visit to Manipur said the NPP is open to fielding more candidates in the polls.

Sangma also sounded upbeat about the poll prospects of the NPP candidates and hoped that the party will emerge single-largest.
