The BJP has been rocked by desertions since the release of its list of 60 candidates. Faced with the problem of plenty in the election-bound state, the BJP denied tickets to 3 sitting MLAs. The party also had to disappoint a number of intending candidates, many of whom were near certain of making the cut.
Right after the announcement of the list, BJP members from Tamei Mandal resigned en masse. Sitting MLA from Wangkhei Y Irabot also indicated that he may join the NPP.
Meanwhile, a day after the release of list, another sitting MLA, P Saratchandra Singh who was denied ticket, joined the Congress in Moirang Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, BJP intending candidate from Saikot assembly constituency in Churachandpur, Khaipao Haokip joined the NPP along with his supporters.
