Manipur: NPP back in BJP-led coalition govt

The National People’s Party (NPP) is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition in Manipur. This was officially stated by NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma.

Briefing newspersons after his arrival at the Imphal international airport from the national capital, Conrad Sangma said that Union Home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda have assured the NPP leadership that they will personally look into the issues in Manipur and resolve the grievances.

The NPP national president also said that the party MLAs will meet Governor Najma Heptullah to reiterate their support to the N Biren Singh-led government.

Conrad Sangma also maintained that the 4 NPP MLAs will continue as cabinet ministers. Significantly, the NPP national president added that there will be a change in portfolios.

The NPP national president further added that his party will continue to support the BJP for the interest of the people of Manipur.

NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the 4 NPP MLAs who had withdrawn support from the N Biren Singh government in Manipur arrived in Imphal earlier this afternoon.

It was on Wednesday that the week-long political crisis in the state was finally resolved after the disgruntled NPP MLAs met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi.

Taking to social media, NEDA Convenor and top BJP leader from the region Himanta Biswa Sarma had confirmed that the BJP and NPP will continue to work together for the development of Manipur. NPP national president Conrad Sangma was also present during the crucial closed door meeting.

It may be mentioned that, the NPP MLAs earlier had expressed dissatisfaction alleging arbitrary action of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh following which they withdrew support and joined hands with the Congress to form the Secular Progressive Front.
