The Zeme Students’ Organisation Manipur (ZSOM), Tousem Area Students’ Organisation (TASO), Chramram Segment Voice (CSV), and Tousem Headquarters Students’ Union (THSU) have jointly declared an indefinite shutdown of National Highway 37 within Tousem sub-division’s jurisdiction, beginning Tuesday midnight.
The shutdown is in protest against the Manipur government’s failure to meet their demand to relocate the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) office from Tamenglong district headquarters to Tousem’s sub-divisional headquarters.
In a joint statement, the organisations expressed disappointment that their 30-day ultimatum to the state government yielded no positive response. They vowed to continue the shutdown until their demand is met.
The shutdown will not affect essential services such as medical emergencies, educational institutions, fire services, and the electricity department. The organisations also warned that the state government will be held accountable for any disturbances or incidents during the protest.
The student bodies urged all civil society groups and the general public to support their cause until justice is served.
