In a big development, the Government of Manipur is actively considering the demand made by the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur or the STDCM for the inclusion of the indigenous Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes list of India.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Chief Minister Biren Singh said the Manipuri society is complex and the interests of every community need to be taken into consideration.
He informed that the government is actively considering the demand and will come up with the best solution for the whole state.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Chief Minister’s statement, Working President of the STDCM, L Lokendra said that the government actively considering the demand is appreciable yet any objection from other communities is absurd as the demand is for the constitutional safeguard and to protect the indigenous land and identity of the Meiteis.
