The initiative aims to create an efficient and robust response mechanism to address demands and extortion-related activities.
In a big development, the Manipur Government has announced the establishment of a dedicated Integrated Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department, comprising representatives from the State Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Assam Rifles/Army.
As per an official release, the initiative aims to create an efficient and robust response mechanism to address demands and extortion-related activities, ensuring the safety and security of the public.
The Toll-Free number for the Anti-Extortion Cell is 1800 202 3326, operational 24×7.
Reports have surfaced indicating that several individuals, including government employees, have received threatening calls, messages, or letters from criminal organisations demanding money. These activities have caused a significant disturbance in the state’s law and order, the release added.
The Government has also urged citizens, especially government officials, to report any extortion attempts to the Anti-Extortion Cell. Upon receiving a report, the Cell will work with relevant police stations to initiate prompt action. The public is also advised to avoid unsafe areas. The Government of Manipur remains committed to protecting the people from these illegal and disturbing activities.
